Back in the saddle again....Again?!?

Well, here I am again trying to give this blog a real go. As you will see when you take a gander at some past posts- this is not the first time I have tried this. Back nearly one year ago now I declared that I was back to pay attention to and grow this puny, neglected blog. I promised to add posts to it, to share with you my opinions, and to make this something worth your time and interest. Sadly, that never happened…

However this blog, much like myself, has undergone some changes for the better. It has a new name, new color scheme, and new background. With all these changes I am sure you wonder if the objectives of this blog will be the same. And the answer to that is yes. Continuity is important and my goals for this blog have remained unchanged.

Here is what you can expect from this blog going forward:

Politic-Ed:

Politic-Ed will be political editorials written by yours truly. They will cover a wide range of topics including the upcoming presidential election, the health care crisis, the energy crisis, and all the other issues and hoopla that surrounds this great democratic system in which we live in.

These pieces are opinion pieces in nature and may offend some of opposing views. This can’t be helped and I am really not interested in trying. With that said I am a very open minded person and often like to hear multiple viewpoints on a subject. My opinion of that subject often remains the same, but sometimes new insights are gained.

I also will be honest and upfront that I am a liberal and have voted democrat in nearly every election I have had the privilege of participating in. But, I do have friends who are conservative and I am always happy and willing to talk politics with them. I respect their views and do not feel any differently toward them due to their political alliance or opinions.

What I am trying to say is this: I welcome your opinions, talkbacks, and comments to these posts. In fact, I encourage it. Good debate, when done in the right way, is an exercise worth pursuing.

Film Post Mortem:

In college, I started out majoring in film. I had a few amateur films under my belt and really enjoyed making films. I wanted to be the next Spielberg, Lucas, Coppola, etc. Life went a different way. No regrets of course.

What remains however is a deep love of film and the art of filmmaking. In particular, I like to write about films and my thoughts on them.

So, Film Post Mortem will be my reviews of films I have seen. They will consist of ones that are new and some that I am viewing again after some time has passed. I find revisiting a film after a period of time can cause you to view it in a different light than when you first saw it. I try to do that often, particularly with films I disliked the first time I saw them.

Most of the films reviewed will be on DVD when the review appears on this blog. This can’t be helped. I have two small children and the cost for me to have someone watch them so that I could view movies at release is too much for my wallet to bear. In truth, I think my reviews may come in handy for those parents, like me, out there looking for something to watch once the kids go to bed. I welcome those people and will be happy to hopefully steer you to some good films.

The Depository of Geek:

This is where I will write about anything that is geek in nature. It will often involve films I am excited about or technology that is of interest to me. Sometimes it will be about comic books, sometimes about television. But in any event, it will involve geeky things that interest me and my opinions on them.

I will make one admission right now up front- I am a HUGE Batman fan. So, the suppository may be overrun with comments and news regarding The Dark Knight Rises up to and shortly after its release in July. I can’t help it. Really, I can’t.

But as I said, I will sprinkle in things from other areas of geek interest and culture as well. So breathe easy.

Writing Sucks:

My main objective with this blog was to get me writing in a real way again. You see I am a writer. Now before you laugh, I know what can be implied in a statement like that. Let me amend my previous assertion slightly here- I am an aspiring writer. I want to write, I have ideas, but I have not written anything of substance since I graduated college in 2007. 2007!? I know!

But, that is all going to change in 2012. I have several short story ideas and a big old ambitious as hell novel that I want to finally tackle. This section will chronicle my progress as I work to write something worthy of publishing to the masses.

It will include my personal feelings as I work through the writing process. Resources I have found useful, challenges I face, frustrations I encounter, and hopefully successes I find.

I strongly encourage all of you active writers and ones who dream of being published to read this section of the blog. No one can write on an island and they shouldn’t!

My hope is that through the act of writing about my experiences I help others like me and perhaps make valuable connections with other aspiring writers like myself. Community is important and I hope to find that through these entries.

Say What! :

This section will include things found on the web that are crazy, hard to understand, and just plain dumb. It will probably be a lot of dumb quotes made publicly. But it can include stupid criminals, reckless acts by people intoxicated or high, and anything else that catches my eye and causes me to question humanity on the whole.

This section may be the most fun to be honest and one worth reading if I do my job right.

Alright, well we have reached the end of this introduction. I reserve the right to add additional topics to this blog as necessary. But for now, I would plan on these sections and topics.

My hope is that you enjoy the things I write and spread the word on this little upstart blog. I thank you for your readership (if and when it comes) and look forward to sharing my thoughts with you throughout 2012 and beyond!
