The Depository of Geek: It's Lincoln!

I am late to the party on this one, but the trailer for Lincoln debuted this week.  It looks pretty good to me.  I think Daniel Day Lewis completely looks the part of Lincoln.  They have a great supporting cast around him with Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones, Joseph Gordon Levitt, and others.

There is however one thing that people seem to have an issue with when it comes to this trailer: Lincoln's voice.  The one thing I have seen complained about online is the voice Day Lewis uses for Lincoln.  Many claim it is too high pitched and it simply doesn't sound right.  Well here is the truth of it:  Lincoln died before we were able to make recordings.  So...no one knows exactly how Lincoln sounded.

However, the descriptions of some of Lincoln's speeches seem to imply that people were intially put off by both the look of Lincoln and his voice.  If Lincoln had such an appealing barritone, why would those who first heard him speak be so put off by his voice?  They wouldn't.

Now am I saying Day Lewis made the right choice with the voice?  No.  But I also don't think he made the wrong one.  Either way, this is really a non-issue.  It is his performance that will matter come November, not his voice.

I, for one, will be there opening weekend to see Day Lewis knock this one out of the park.
